MORE REVIEWS

Reviews sometime say as much about the reviewer as it does the subject. With this in mind, I share these reviews from hundreds of insightful, articulate guests who were so moved enough to write, that they might encourage another person to come experience for themselves.

I love New Orleans to the point that I would move there. So whenever I visit, I’m excited to learn more of the culture, especially due to me learning about my own history as an African American. To be able to listen to an individual who’s roots are directly connected to the grounds that he speaks about is a blessing... about time! Lol, no offense to any others, the information was getting repetitive from people who have no REAL knowledge, or bloodline for that matter. He was even open to exchange dialogue afterwards to further answer questions. I highly recommend this experience if you want to learn something real about this beautiful culture 💜

Was not at all what we expected, but turned out to be a good thing and was an awesome learning experience. We expected to see a bunch of stuff, but instead we learned a lot about the relation of black history and many things we take for granted in America

I have traveled to 20+ Countries, 100s of cities, and have participated in countless tours/experiences. This man has a special je ne sais quoi. His lived experience transcends race, gender, and social class. His depth in understanding and conveying geo political climates across generations against the backdrop of the human condition is not only illuminating but inspiring. He activates the imagination as you gallivant the sacred spaces of our ancestors just as they did for generations. Dance where they danced, socialize where they socialized, and play out the theater of our internal psychology in the public arena. The private becomes public, and the public becomes a shared reality only to serve as a facade for the private once again. Unadulterated immersive storytelling with lessons of triumph, perseverance, and above all matriarchal resilience. Jean-Marcel not only gives the gems, he himself applies all of the lessons to his reality. He continues the legacy of his foremothers and honors the balance of our collective spiritual soul. What an amazing gift to be able to bare witness to a human imbued with the resolve to demand life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Thank you Sir!

This guy is the real deal. I learned so much about the slavery culture in New Orleans and the history of hoodoo. I loved how connected he is with his heritage and tells his stories as if they were his own experiences-because, they were his ancestor's experiences and all those ancestors are what made him. I dont know if it was because it was Halloween, or if he does it for everyone, but we got a mojo pouch at the end of the tour. Don't know what a mojo pouch is? Well then, you best be comin' to N'awlins and take the tour to find out! Its worth every penny!

This was the best experience I had while going on tours in new Orleans he gives you alot of knowledge on hoodoo and voodoo. This is the real deal no gimmick.

Jean-Marcel is a master story teller. So much to be learned about the history of the area, voodoo, jazz and so much more. An experience that will stick with me for years to come.

Jean Marcel is a lovely man and some parts of the tour were good. But, It is absolutely not something to bring children to and not because of the hoodoo voodoo part. He is very passionate which can be an effective trait. The content moved from informative to anger of generations past for a good portion of the tour. That being said, it would have been fine had I expected to be on the receiving end. Would I do it again? Perhaps but this time, will be prepared. Jean-Marcel’s firsthand art and its evolution was an incredibly interesting aspect. It was probably the takeaway I found most valuable. Once again, Jean Marcel is a lovely man and impressive in his accomplishments. But understand that a part of the tour will channel voices long since gone with present day anger and may appear to come in your direction.

This is an experience that will stick with you for the rest of your life. Jean Marcel is a wonderful story teller who captivates his audience by sharing his very personal and unique story. Highly recommend to anyone visiting that is craving an experience off the beaten path.

Stop reading reviews and book this NOW. Your mind will be blown by how much you learn. It's a 100 proof history lesson and storytelling at it's finest.

This is an amazing tour, filled with family history and stories going back six generations. If you like something a bit out of the ordinary, would highly recommend Jean-Marcel’s tour.

He is passionate about this experience. He has great insight into the history of African slaves who came to New Orleans, and he is a wonderful storyteller.

Wonderful and interesting experience filled with Jean Marcel’s personal experiences, insight to history, a culture and world that is generally perceived negative by most . Light hearted and often comical his storytelling is honest and authentic. His art and spiritual connections are beautiful and rare.... this experience is a true gem!

This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I know I will continue to think about for some time. The one thing I would tell others is that there is much more to this experience that learning about voodoo and hoodoo. Through stories of his family and himself he clearly articulates the history of New Orleans from a Black perspective. He made me realize a number of misconceptions I had, as well as making me think more about WHO is telling the story, and what that may imply. It seems to take bit to get to the voodoo, and be aware that Jean-Marcel has a passion to tell - and live out - many stories and you shouldn't be surprised if the experience last longer than advertised. When you do get to the voodoo part though, it will all make so much more sense thinking about it in context, and through the experience and expertise of Jean-Marcel.

Jean-Marcel was a truly fantastic tour guide. He shared very insightful and personal stories that were really valuable. I learned many new things I would not have been able to learn from most basic tours. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, and I think this experience was more valuable than most other voodoo and hoodoo tours out there.

This is a must if you really want to know the origins of Hoodoo/Voodoo! Great oration of NOLA's black history and clarification of misconceptions about the practice. One of the best highlights from my NOLA trip.

This was one of the best experiences of my visit to New Orleans. I wanted to learn about the history of New Orleans and who better to share it than a man with a flare for storytelling whose family has lived in New Orleans for generations. A lot of the history of this country is highly white washed and this experience helped undo some of that for me. Jean-Marcel was frank and didn't sugar coat the history, and was also kind and welcoming. Also, his art is beautiful.

Fantastic experience. Jean-Marcel will tell you stories you will not hear on other tours. Important stories that we all should hear. Just book this experience! You will not regret it.

Rencontre spéciale avec quelqu’un d’unique qui donne un tout autre angle à la culture afro-américaine et louisianaise. Ce n’est pas tant le voodoo qui est abordé que la culture générale. Très intéressant et je le recommande.

This experience had great content, but not what was advertised. The host tells the tale of Louisiana slaves and Europeans, events post abolishment, Katrina fallout, shares black culture and practices of the region then and now. Skillful storytelling by an expert with deep and personal knowledge. The real history that they didn’t teach us in school. Highly recommended.

We loved this tour--It was an engaging, intimate, and thoughtful introduction to the city and history of New Orleans that you're unlikely to learn about in an easily accessible format anywhere else. Jean-Marcel brings not only historical, cultural, and factual information about Hoodoo and New Orleans, but ties in his own highly unique and relevant personal experiences as well. You will also get to see his studio in the beautiful neighborhood of Treme! I would recommend to tourists and locals alike.
